Wellesley Police Station

About

Location: Wellesley, MA
Size: 22,000 sq. ft.
Status: Completed in 1996

This 22,000 sq. ft. brick police facility is sited at an angle, helping to call attention to the adjacent park and historic Wellesley Town Hall. During the feasibility study phase, we considered a number of design options, including renovating and expanding the existing station; building a new station on a different site; and, the selected alternative, building a new station on the present site. Following demolition of the existing station and relocation of the police department to a temporary location, the new station was constructed on the existing site.

A public meeting room in a windowed curved wing faces the street and marks the public nature of the building. The building as a whole makes the transition between the built-up area of Washington Street and the open and spacious Morton Park.
